Conversations Pane

A typical inbox is basically a long list of messages. Here, that list has been replaced by a list of all the individual people in your inbox, called “Conversations”.

Each person is similar to a channel, and when you click that person’s name, all their messages in your inbox are shown in summary form to the right of the Conversations list. (more on that next).

The list is ordered by whomever wrote to you most recently (the top three people are the last three people who wrote to you). Bold text on a white background indicates there are unread messages by that person, and regular text on blue background means all the messages by that person have been read. The number in the parentheses represents the number of new messages by that person. If an unknown sender appears in the Conversations list and appears to be spam, you can check the checkbox next to the name to push that sender and their mail into a spam flder, removing them from the Conversations list.

When you receive threaded messages, the participants of that thread are listed as a single conversation in the “Conversations” list.
